Navigating ourselves in stressful and changing times

Now, more than ever, we are susceptible to our fears. Once common distractions such as eating out, going to the movies and social events have been removed from our daily lives. We are now left at home with our thoughts, increasing our existing anxieties. Even before COVID-19, mental health issues have been on the rise as evidenced by this statistic from MHA.

With that said, this is all treatable. There are actions we can take to reduce our anxieties in our social lives and in the workplace.

Exercise

Daily exercise is the #1 thing we can do for ourselves to lower our anxiety. Taking the time out for as little as 30 minutes a day can drastically improve our physical condition as well as our mental state. Studies have shown that exercise improves our mental health by helping the brain better cope with stress. Researchers have found that those who vigorously exercise regularly were less likely to develop depression or an anxiety disorder by 25%!

This is not to say that you must exercise with high intensity every day. Studies have shown that walking for as little as ten minutes has mood boosting effects and can reduce anxiety for up to several hours after.

HR’s Tip of The Month

At work and in our social lives we are sometimes expected to have all of the answers at once. It is perfectly acceptable to gather your thoughts, reflect and give your answer at a later point. It is much better to be precise in your correspondence then to give a rushed answer fueled by anxiety and uncertainty.

Monthly Trivia

Every month as part of this blog we will ask a trivia question of our staff. Those who submit the right answer to armsacreshr@libertymgt.com will be entered into a raffle to win a $25.00 gift certificate. This months trivia question is as follows.

How is drug tolerance BEST described?

  • Decreased sensitivity to a drug over time
  • The inability to get intoxicated
  • The need for more of a drug to get intoxicated
  • Increased sensitivity to a drug over time

I would like to thank everyone that took the time out to read The Arms Insider blog. I hope this can be an open forum for employees to have a comfortable and honest conversation about how we can all better ourselves and this company.
